This document contains recent advances and practical instructions on management of common conditions encountered in obstetrics and immediate neonatal care.” It addresses, in particular, care in emergency situations affecting the mother and the newborn baby to achieve improved pregnancy, newborn, perinatal, and maternal outcomes. The development of this clinical protocol  is in keeping with National trend for scaling up coverage of evidence based maternal, newborn and child health interventions, inline with Nigeria’s vision for zero tolerance to maternal and newborn  deaths and the Millennium Development Goal 5 “Improving Maternal Health
